Railroad Expansion

The New World beckons newcomers with its abundant natural resources and opportunities for business growth and development. By 1870, most of the eastern United States is linked together by a network of railroads. These railroads extend as far west as frontier San Francisco and as far south as New Orleans. Although the majority of the railroads transverse the Midwestern and Eastern states, new immigrants will find any atmosphere and climate that suits them in these diverse lands. Just as importantly, the cities of America are growing rapidly as industry expands and brings prosperity to residents.

Advanced new technologies await all who would choose to live a better life. Machines now take care of many of the difficult chores we once did with our bare hands. A bustling steel industry welcomes workers and will train them on the job. Steel mills in Eastern states need new immigrants to work in factories, while frontier states need new immigrants to help lay the lines that are linking this great nation together. Steel and railroads are but a few of the many work options awaiting all those who would choose to move to the New World.

With plans to expand the railway system to network the entire continent, American steel companies are actively recruiting new workers from around the world. America is land of equality, governed by the people in a life-affirming democracy. Americans believe that all men are created equal and so all new residents will be warmly welcomed as if their grandparents grew up on the same soil. The great cities of the United States already have in place a strong network of amenities to help make living more comfortable. Those who find work in the more remote and rural regions of the country such as on the railroads out West will be able to take part in building the next generation of American cities.

Like the first European settlers of this land, the next wave of immigrants will live well in the land of opportunity and land of plenty. However, options for increasing prosperity are greater now than ever, and unparalleled. No longer do our citizens need to fend for themselves living solely off the land. Industrialists, entrepreneurs, and inventors can also contribute to the wealth building and growth of the economy. The Age of Industry has turned the United States into the land of opportunity.

New immigrants will learn new skills in factories, mines, and railroads. The railroads that are being built towards new cities like San Francisco are especially in need of new labor: not just for laying down tracks but also for helping to feed and house new immigrants. Land is cheap and plenty, and young as well as old can prosper and do well. Families will find plenty of opportunities in the many urban centers of the United States such as New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia. Women can also find work in the many textile mills that pepper the Eastern United States.

Urbanization is changing the way people live and work in America. With higher population density, residents are creating economies of scale that allow greater access to goods from around the world at competitive prices. All the cities of the Eastern United States are linked via trade routes to the Old World and beyond, introducing items ranging from spices and food to luxury goods. The American trade industry is booming so much so that this nation's raw materials are in demand all over the world. New immigrants to American cities can participate in the exiting endeavors of world trade, working on docks loading and unloading cargo or helping ship raw materials from mines and factories to the ships that will take them overseas.

The American housing industry needs laborers to build and help move large tracts of lumber across many miles of land. Similarly, giant steel companies are hiring as many laborers as possible to work the mills and transport steel beams across miles and miles of tricky terrain. Americans work hard and often in trying conditions, but all citizens experience the rewards of living in a land filled with freedom and opportunity. The nation is being built by hand, by the toughest, most reliable, and strongest hands in the world. Immigrants from all over the globe: from China, Ireland, Italy, and Poland are welcome here to participate and to prosper. Ethnic communities help new immigrants transition to their new surroundings while still being able to enjoy some of the comforts of home such as houses of worship and food items. American schools will help the children of immigrants learn English and become the next generation of entrepreneurs, engineers, and educators.
