While we know how we are supposed to honor the Spirit of the Lord, we cannot ever know exactly why events unfold as they do because to do so would be knowing what only God can know. Christianity teaches that mystery and the unknown (or unknowable) are nothing to fear provided one trusts in God. Most critiques of religion neglect the fact that the human intellect is incapable of judging matters that are only knowable to God. By definition, matters of religious faith cannot be knowable or measured by those methods; they encompass matters that, ultimately, are only knowable to an omniscient God. Regardless of how carefully or "scientifically" tests are designed, the tools of human intellectual reason and deduction are inadequate to evaluate matters of faith and matters that are knowable only to God. Science can only explain what happens; it cannot ever explain why anything happens beyond physical causation.
