Cosmos was a kind and gentle soul whose memorable presence touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with throughout his life. Eventually, he decided it was time to leave Petite Martinique. He established his own business—The Bargain Shop—in August of 1987, after moving to New York City. Leaving the familiar island that was his homeland was a great risk, but Cosmos knew that he could rise to the challenge, given his natural gregariousness and affability.

Cosmos made New York his new home. The Bargain Shop was located in downtown Manhattan. Despite the very competitive nature of this area, the store flourished, and so did Cosmos. However, the store took a great deal of his time, and his marriage to June James sadly ended, partly because of the pressures he was facing. However, his friends became is family Cosmos established what became known as “PM Day” in his apartment in Brooklyn. He was famous among the community of his friends for his beef barley soup and his special touch with Shake and Bake chicken. Cosmos also enjoyed listening to his Caribbean music and watching his African movies.

It was on November 29, 2021 Cosmos passed from this life into the next. I am sure he will be reunited with his dearest friends and family in heaven, and will be smiling, welcoming, and joyful there, just as he was in our lives. His memory and his presence are unforgettable. Left to mourn him are his sisters Monica, Yvonne, Pat, and his brother Mervin. He also left his nieces Rosalie Spencer, Robin Roberts Russell Roberts, Imran Lambert, Kijon Blake, Blake Bethel, Daniel Bethel, Jeffrey and Kyle Dawkins; his great niece and nephews, Quintin, Danielle, Abigail and Nazreen Spencer, Kamora and Dylan Roberts, Illiana Victor, Ian Lambert and Quinell Spencer.

It his hard to believe such a charismatic character as Cosmos is no longer with us, but I am sure his legacy will be carried on in the lives of all the young people here today. Every time you eat one of his favorite foods, or listen to one of his favorite songs or films, please think of Cosmos. And know he is holding a bowl of beef and barley soup in heaven for all of us.
