Eat, Swipe and Leave -- The New Smartphone Apps for Diners

The SPREAD of the Smartphone apps for diners has REVOLUTIONIZED eating out all over the world. Through COMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH and OBSERVATION, apps such as Qkr!, Velocity, Cake, MyCheck, Orderella, Uncover, Flypay and Zapper, aim to reduce customer waiting time at restaurants. For example, through one popular app, customers are given a four-digit code which is then given to the restaurant. This code provides the customer a table number as well as the bill. PARTICIPANTS can simply make their payment, or, if dining in a group they can split the bill equally. The app allows diners to choose to each pay for exactly what they have eaten, minimizing the social awkwardness as well as the time devoted to evenly splitting a check. This new dining CULTURE has produced a SOCIAL CHANGE as the INVENTION has made the dining experience more pleasant for everyone. Still, despite this convenience and simplicity, there is a lack of PRO-INNOVATION BIAS for the app as many individuals prefer being more TRADITIONIONAL and do not feel SECURE having their card information on an app.

Commercial Kitchens Getting a Taste of 3-D-Printed Food

3-D printing of food is a new DATA-driven trend of the future which allows users to customize meals and snacks. Despite being in only its early stages, this INVENTION will foster greater efficiency in the production of food and limit waste. RESEARCH shows that food can be created with precise nutritional formulations for people with specific dietary requirements. Furthermore, SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION proves that the 3-D food printer will remove the need for additives and preservatives. This PROCESS may be hard to adapt, leading to a slow RATE OF DIFFUSION as the degree to which people are willing to accept 3-D-printed food may be a problem. INCORPORATING TIME into evaluating this potential solution, the potential for this INNOVATION to generate benefits for users seems strong.

Food Prices Heading Towards a Future of Food Insecurity We have all had the experience of going to the grocery store, picking up a box of cereal or a bunch of bananas, and finding ourselves surprised, or even shocked, at how much more it costs than it had just a week before. Most of us, after that initial surprise, will chalk that rise in prices down to inflation and either put the

Food Wars Place of publication: London and New York Publisher: Verso Date of publication: 2009 Walden Bello's book The Food Wars is not a meaty book in terms of length, but it covers an issue all of us are and should be concerned with: food. Bello is certainly qualified to discuss this topic. He has a background in sociology and is currently a professor of that discipline at the University of the Philippines. With

This prevented the construction of a dam on the river that was going to be used to produce hydroelectricity. This is significant because it is showing how there is tremendous amounts of competition over the natural resources. Once this occurs, it means that sustainable food supplies become more difficult to obtain, which will result in food security issues. ("Water and Food Security," 2011) To deal with these problems, many countries

Food and Water Supply: Rwanda Identifying Methods to Improve the Food and Water Supply in Rwanda The recent events following Hurricane Katrina served to emphasize just how important clean food and water are to the American public; fortunately, though, the profound deprivations in New Orleans were short-lived, but the same plight is faced on a daily basis by the peoples of many developed countries of the world. Food Prices Malaysia Malaysians enjoy one of the world's best cuisines, rich with influences from Tamil, Malay and a number of different Chinese cuisines. For the most part, traditional foods match high quality with low prices -- the nation's breakfast staple, nasi lemak, retails for 1RM ($0.30) a bundle even in central Kuala Lumpur. From a 3RM char kway teow at Penang's famous hawker stalls to a whole fried chicken for
