¶ … Transfer to Georgetown

There are numerous reasons why I desire to transfer to Georgetown. First, before enrolling at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, I had spent my entire life in Korea. In addition, I had never visited the United States before determining which college to attend. Needless to say, my arrival at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign resulted in a case of severe culture shock. Additionally, the location and school environment were completely different than what I had expected. Lastly, I perceived that I was being discriminated against at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, an experience which strengthened my commitment to my studies and which led to my decision to apply to Georgetown.

In addition to the personal reasons discussed above, there are several academic-related reasons why I wish to transfer to Georgetown. First, Georgetown is one of the premier major international research universities. As such, Georgetown is able to attract and retain distinguished, high-caliber faculty including authors, diplomats, economists, lawyers, public health officials, scientists, and numerous other individuals. Being exposed to such cream of the crop educators will permit me to achieve my full academic and individual potential. Next, as the nation's oldest Catholic and Jesuit university, Georgetown has a proven history of fostering an unwavering commitment to the common good, intellectual openness, and justice.

Georgetown is clearly the next peak on my climb up the mountain of academic success. In addition to possessing the resources and facilities I need in order to further my growth as a student, Georgetown has a plethora of collegiate and community opportunities available to enhance my growth as an individual. Receiving a top-notch education from Georgetown will enable me to become better prepared to make a lasting, significant contribution to the community and world around me. By taking a variety of classes in a multitude of areas I have yet to explore, I will be able to determine which career path I am most inclined to travel upon. My educational and personal experiences at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign have whetted my appetite for education, and Georgetown will give me more than ample opportunity to fulfill my academic goals.
