With reference to the greatest Roman poet, Tennyson declared "wielder of the stateliest measure ever molded by the lips of man." Virgil is known for his impressive, the AENEID (written about 29 B.C.E., incomplete), which had taken as its fictitious model Homer's epic poetry Iliad and Odyssey. The tale gives a picture of Aeneas's search for a new homeland and his war to establish a city. Between 42 and 37 BC Virgil wrote rustic poems such as Eclogues ('rustic poems' and "selections"). From 30 BC on, Virgil dedicated most of his living to the Aeneid, which is the public epic of Rome. Virgil's death occurred in 19 BC, when he died from a fever. Although Virgil wished to burn the Aeneid, the epic was published. Virgil was buried close to Naples.

Vergil's final work was the Aeneid. He planned for it to be the Romans' description of the Iliad and the Odyssey put jointly. For this attempt, he united many foundation myths and paid attention on the Aeneas myth harkening back to Homeric legend. Although his account of the myth has turned out to be canonized, lots of his facts were developments or alterations. The work was crafted to adore the rulers of the Imperial period, mainly Augustus, for having shaped peace after so many years of war. Vergil used up the last decade of his life working on it and died with it unfinished. When Augustus originated the mostly comprehensive document, he had two other scholars arrange it for publication because he liked it a lot.

For the reason that it was so frequently read and appreciated, the Aeneid became the most well-preserved case of Latin literature from this era. It influenced early medieval writers such as Milton and Dante. Late Renaissance and Elizabethan writers also observed Vergil a good basis of inspiration. In the twentieth century, Vergil has kept hold of a wide readership through many levels of learning, while upholding influence on writers from Ezra Pound and T.S. Eliot to Robert Frost. According to Theodore Ziolkowski,"Virgil has permeated modern culture and society in ways that would be unimaginable in the case of most other icons of Western civilization" (ix).

In the Aeneid, Virgil through out the story emphasizes through his characters that responsibility is of higher precedence than of love. He makes it apparent in Book II, in which Aeneas focuses on his responsibilities rather than on his wife as they fled the city and even in Book IV Aeneas suppresses his feelings of love for Dido and rather prefers his fulfilling his duty. While women in "The Aeneid" by Virgil hold love in a higher position than responsibilities. As in book II when Aeneas and his family are escaping from the city, Aeneas' wife Creusa vanishes but as Aeneas was so determined to fulfill his duties that he doesn't even notice when or how she vanished. "Never did I look back/or think to look for her," (p. 59) Aeneas said these words after he realized that his wife Creusa had vanished. Though his love for Creusa led him to go back and hunt for her but his duty had already reigned and thus when he found her she was a spirit. It is quite obvious that love and duty cannot fit into the same puzzle but a choice should be made between any one of them. And if one feels like Aeneas, the choice will become easier to choose. The characters portrayed by the story are unexciting and uninteresting and Aeneid by Virgil successfully depicts a feeling of grief and love. Though his love for Creusa led him to go back and hunt for her but his duty had already reigned and thus when he found her she was a spirit and even then Creusa's ghost told Aeneas that he is destined to have another wife.
