The increased involvement of women involved in violent crimes in the year of 2013 has led to the development of more equitable services in a system primarily created from research based on male adolescent offenders (Sondheimer, 2001). Studying women and violent crimes has been crucial to understanding their acts compared to men. Statistics show that there is a growing amount of violence coming from women in the past two years when compared to women. Since 2012 the amount of female defendants convicted of felonies in State courts has grown at more than 2 times the rate of rise in male defendants. In 2013 an estimated 960,000 women were under the care, control, or custody of correctional agencies & probation or parole organizations verseeing 75% of these offenders in the community. The entire equals a rate of around 1 woman involved with the criminal justice system for every 108 adult women in the U.S. population.

Male committing acts of violent crimes equals about 1 violent criminal for every 9 males age 10 or older, each person percentage 6 times that of women. Around 84,000 women were limited in jails in 2013. In 2013 the average sentence and time helped for women were shorter than for males with equal crimes. Yet, there has been little change in the application of gender-specific treatment for women offenders.

Hypothesis

The hypothesis for the current study predicted that women would receive longer sentences than men for sex offenses.

Population

The sample for this study will consisted of male who committed acts of violence and female committed acts of violence. In regard to ethnicity, a certain percentage of the study population will be Hispanic, Caucasian, African-American, Native American, and Asian-American. The ethnic representation of the sample will hopefully be consistent with that of the original population of men and women in the certain geographical area.

So as to provide a more complete picture of the population of male and females that were violent to be examined herein demographic data on the sample are provided. Specifically, the sample being studied may be characterized in terms of the following variables: ethnicity, age, parenthood status, schooling, substance use, offending history, education, and family structure as well as family financial status, and abuse.

Collection of Data

The body of data for this study will be taken from multiple formats. This will be done through a selection of newspaper headlines, interviews and also through things such as relevant documentaries that is relating to women and their violence more than men. With reference to the use of newspaper headlines, because of the wealth of coverage for the topic, so as to refine the search only those articles from certain papers. Different resources will be used for analysis. Different magazine and newspaper resources will be selected based on their salacious' content, it has been selected for analysis within this study as it continues to be the most popular day-to-day newspaper.

Further to this, the headlines that will be used are the ones that are often looked at as being the key element in attracting readers ultimately setting the tone for the rest of article and is therefore appropriate for analysis. In difference to the sensationalistic end of the range, the two documentaries which have been used; 'Deadly Women' and 'Wicked Women', will both be used in order to offer a more accurate-based explanation.

While finding the documentaries may or may not be relatively easy as for each case there will only be one documentary which will be of relevance and both are willingly available over the internet on either 'Netflix' or 'YouTube', the choice procedure for the newspapers articles will more than likely be slightly more complex. So as to recover a sample of an appropriate size the search was focused precisely on the news coverage throughout the first two weeks of each of the trial developments.

Also, personal interviews with the participants will the primary data gathering tool in the study. Furthermore, the interview protocol for the semi-structured interviews will be consisted of the open-ended questions which will all be used to answer the research questions as stated by the following scheme. Some questions will be structured that will have multiple parts so as to guide the interviewee's thought method in order to accomplish the purpose of the study, and to get a better comprehension of the phenomenon. Previous to leading the full study, the questions will be shared with both offenders that are women and men in order to verify the questions' truth and trustworthiness for the phenomenon being examined. The questions will all be placed in Appendix A.

Approval in order to collect data will be acquired from the county jail and also the Institutional Review Board (IRB) as part of founding loyalty to ethical strategies for research. Privacy and confidentiality issues will be resolved by getting informed consent from potential participants in order to make ensure they knew the interviews would be recorded. Also, the participants will be assured that they could dismiss contribution in the study at any time.

Measures in order to make sure that confidentiality will be applied. No names or detecting information will be revealed in the interview transcripts, and false name will be used in lieu of the actual names. The important element in the collection of data was maintaining confidentiality of the research participants. This will be confirmed through a preliminary discussion and later signing of a statement of confidentiality and an informed consent form previous to contribution in the study as before mentioned. Recorded audiotapes will be stored and the chain of evidence will all be erased after 5 years from the time the study comes to an end.

In-depth interviews will be the primary data gathering tool. The sample will be derived from women and men offenders and those that participated in violent acts during the year of 2013. The interviews will be done with 10 respondents.

When the women and men offenders who met the criteria for selection were acknowledged, they were contacted and made aware about the study. Once those potential participants give their informed consent, the interviews will then be conducted in person and scheduled to be able to suit the obtainability and ease of volunteers. The same interview protocol will be followed for each interview.

The interviews will all be taped and then conducted with the expressed consent of the participant. Open-ended questions will be asked concerning bullying and its influence on the school performance of children that are enrolled in elementary schools. When the completion of the interviews is over, written transcriptions will take place in order to better analyze and figure out possible patterns for emerging interpretations theories. However, for everyone of the transcriptions and recordings, I will put together a pseudonym coding technique to make sure the confidentiality of each participant.
