Working Towards Social Change in the Field of Administration

¶ … Vision As a student of the Public Policy and Administration program at Walden I looked forward to being a part of the drive towards positive social change in the world by uniting my skills, diligence, energy, time, and orientation to the idea that the world can be transformed for the better into a thriving, united, meaningful and honest society where camaraderie is key and individuals are treated with respect, dignity, transparency, and commitment.

My vision for positive social change is based in a belief that a better, more accountable society can be fostered through a social commitment to truth and transparency. This change could facilitate support for leaders who are transparent and accountable to a higher ideal, who hold themselves accountable, and who strive to do right on a social justice level.

In the context of my professional goals, this vision helps to fortify me against the dangers or temptations of going along to get along, of accepting the status quo rather than challenging it and attempting to create or foster a system that encourages all to hold themselves accountable to a higher standard of social justice.

My professional goals are thus intertwined with this vision and I strive towards becoming an efficient, accountable administrator, one who is not simply out to collect a pay check but rather to actually do something beneficial for society through positive example and positive reinforcement of my vision. In the context of my academic goals, my vision sustains my efforts to devote myself to my studies and provide serious, honest efforts towards obtaining the PhD degree I am pursuing in this field.

Academic work is some of the hardest and most time-consuming work there is: it demands attention to detail, care, access to information, and the ability to coherently and cohesively articulate ideas, analyze problems, identify solutions, and recommend courses of action.

In this way, the academic world truly prepares one for the professional world of administration, because in public policy one must also be attentive to detail, possess care for others, have access to information, and synthesize aims and objectives so as to create a more stream-lined administration dedicated to serving others.

Walden's mission and vision can help me achieve my goals by preparing me to meet the challenges I expect to face and that Walden knows I will have to face as I make my way on this academic and professional journey.
