In deference to Roger Von Oech (Whack on the Side of the Head), Bauman is asking us to take a different look and approach to the ideas of consumerism in postmodern society / a shift took place that altered society from producers to consumers, and tradeoffs were made; security was given up to enjoy more freedom to purchase and consume. His works are difficult and the concepts a bit amorphous, but the general idea is to get back in touch with the human side of being human -- to use technology not to hide from the world, but to engage with the world. Instead of our children spending hours playing video games, have them engage in play with other children;...

We are now in a global society in which the public sphere has changed dramatically. As consumers, we tend to be more selfish and inward thinking -- Bauman's connection is to redefine the public sphere in relation to a more active state of humanity.
12. Essentially, the public sphere is an area in society and culture where individuals can come together to discuss issues and influence change. This could be a village Pub, a coffee house, or a place where people can discuss and form commonality. Unfortunately, Bauman sees the modern developed world as having no public sphere that isn't part of consumerism. The readings are a plea to have us change that, and look more into public democracy and increased thought and debate -- critical thinking platforms.

Feng Shui Balance in All
PAGES 2 WORDS 637

Whenever a person planted a garden or changed a landscape in any way, it was important to be sure that this balance was taken into consideration. A second school of feng shui was developed in order to show the best places for objects. This school used a grid, compass, and square to determine where objects are in harmony with one another ("Feng Shui," 2009). Today, it is this school of

Smith notes that it may be impossible to unequivocally prove something with one hundred percent accuracy; rather, scientists seek probability. The term theory is often misconstrued: Smith states that "theories always explain facts." Moreover, there is no clear demarcation between a theory and a hypothesis. Theories are basically broad hypotheses. Laws, on the other hand, are more restrictive and are often derived from theories. The practice of science entails experimentation

Augustine's main problem when it came to conceiving of the spiritual nature of God? What solution did he find? Before answering this question, it is important to clarify what exactly is meant by "spiritual nature of God." Many things could be meant by this phrase, but for the purposes of this essay, I stipulate that it refers to "any substance... other than that which the eyes normally perceive" (Conf., VII.i.1).

Critic Bloom continues, "But it could be said also that the audience would understand that Romeo, as a lover-hero, really belongs to another religion, the religion of love, which doesn't collide with Christianity or prevent him from confessing to Friar Laurence, but nonetheless has different standards of what's good and bad" (Bloom 2000, 159). Thus, a strong love like Romeo and Julie profess for each other, is like a
