Schools teach students, but students are part of a larger community of individuals. Making families feel connected to the school environment can enhance parent commitment and buy-in to making the educational program work for students. A good example of this is the parent-teacher conference, whether held in person or virtually. These meetings help parents check in with teachers to ask questions about student behavior, and they give teachers a better understanding of why certain students may be struggling and how their needs can be met.
