Talent is something that cannot be taught. In my time as a retail manager at T-Mobile, I have learned that I possess a natural talent for identifying new business opportunities and for sales. I view talent as a natural ability — something that must be augmented with learned skills. Those skills can be developed through a combination of training and education. As I built my skill set at T-Mobile, I also thought carefully about the ideal career match for my natural abilities. Once I identified that match, I would be able to build my career path toward it by continuously improving my skills.
A career in investment banking is my objective. To me, investment banking encompasses everything I am passionate about and is the most perfect match for my natural talents. Investment banking is about seeing opportunities that exist in the world and acting on those opportunities to create wealth. Investment bankers are visionaries, but they also have the ability to bring their visions to fruition.
As a T-Mobile manager, I have demonstrated the type of vision that capitalizes on marketplace opportunities. When I joined the company, the location to which I was assigned was struggling. I determined that the store, being located in a predominantly Hispanic area, was not sufficiently integrated into the local community. I set to work immediately on raising the store's profile within the community, bringing in staff members who were from the area and could therefore relate to customers and speak their language. In doing so, I was able to improve sales dramatically. This is precisely what investment bankers do, only on a larger scale — they see opportunity where performance is currently weak and find ways through investment to seize that opportunity and generate increased profits.
