The use of computer information systems in the field of medicine has revolutionized the way patients receive medical care. Computer information systems have assisted medical practitioners to capture and transfer information quickly saving the time taken to treat patients. Storage of information has also been automated such that the medical personnel do not have to manually input and store the data. The management of medical organizations has been able to improve on the time take to diagnose an ailment and the accuracy of diagnosis. The presence of electronic health records in an organization improves the way the organization collects patient's information. The collection of debt is thus automated and accurate thus the medical organization can collect all its debts.
Computer user interface refers to the method used the organization to connect o the computer information system. This interface needs to be improved to ensure that the organization can make maximum use of the computer system. Improving interconnectivity through the whole organization is one way that the computer user interface can be improved. This will enable the medical practitioners to access patient's information easily. Ensuring that the organization has an efficient network saves the energy required to access information in various departments. Information processed in the laboratories can be transmitted through the network to the doctor. This reduces the time, energy and convenience required to access medical information in the organization.
Computer user interface should also be improved to ensure that accurate information is stored in the database. Accurate data correction is achievable with elimination of human errors in the organization. This will require the organization to collect data through automated processes. Reducing the degree of human interaction ensures that the information collected in the organization is accurate. Automated systems can be achieved with the use of software that enables the organization to enter patient's information. Dose calculation and other calculations can be done by the computer. The staff needs only to confirm the calculations to ensure that there are no bugs affecting the program. The organization will be able to calculate the hospital charges thus collect adequate revenue to finance its operations.
The use of the latest imaging technology has enabled medical practitioners to maneuver around areas that were difficult to visualize in the past. Three dimensional scans of the human body have enabled doctors to conduct complex procedure. Conventional two dimensional scans required patients to undergo a number of scans but with the latest technology, single imaging has enabled the medical practitioners to make accurate diagnosis for various ailments. This mode of capturing medical data would improve the quality of healthcare through ensuring that the patient is treated for the correct ailment. This also enables the patient to save on medical costs as the doctor is able to diagnose the problem the patient is facing.
Information access refers to the ability of the computer interface used by the organization to produce the information regardless of the location. Convenience in the medical institution is the ability to access information. Medical practitioners need to access medical information at all time for research purpose. Having a database the medical team can access the ailments and treatment in the organization will help provide information to the young doctors. Trainee doctors can follow through video footage of medical procedures performed by other doctors or go through notes made by a doctor. The use of tablet computers instead of the conventional PCs is being introduced in the field of medicine to improve on convenience.
Technology has improved the field of medicine allowing the patients to enjoy quality healthcare.
