Viral respiratory tract infections, such as cold and influenza, are the most common human illnesses. They have significant health and economic consequences, particularly with young children and youth, older individuals and those with other underlying or chronic conditions. Annually, an average of 5 to 20% of Americans contract influenza, with over 200,000 being hospitalized with influenza-related complications and about 36,000 dying from the disease. It is also estimated that 1 billion colds occur each year in the U.S. Only medications that help with the symptoms medications and homeopathic remedies have been available until this time. Due to these high incidence rates, a safe and effective alternative is clearly needed to reduce the burden of illness.

Although the study did not directly evaluate an immune response to the specific swine flu virus, H1N1, good reason exists to conclude that Bacillus coagulans could boost the body's natural defenses to fight a variety of flu viruses, including swine flu, as well. The study helps support the long-suspected belief about the beneficial effects of GanedenBC30 on the immune system and adds to the emerging body of evidence that probiotics can benefit healthy people as well as those with specific health issues. While additional research is needed to demonstrate whether this translates into reduced hospitalization and/or deaths, it's a healthy, low-cost, proactive thing that people can do that has no risks associated with it.

Regardless of the strain and its potential effect, probiotics need...

However, most conventional forms of lactobacilli probiotics are inactivated by bile and have a low gastric pH. On the other hand, spore-bearing, lactic acid-forming bacteria, such as GanedenBC30, are protected by a hardened spore coating that can withstand gastric and bile acid for delivery to the small and large intestines. This may partly explain why GanedenBC30 stimulated a significant immune response while other forms of probiotics tried in the study have not.
Further, any probiotics that are chosen for commercial use must survive industrial manufacturing and storage to ensure long-term viability and activity. However, most cells of conventional lactobacilli die at 70°C, while spore-bearing, lactic acid-forming bacteria do not show a decrease in viable cells even after heating in saline at 85°C for 30 minutes. In addition to surviving heat, gastric acidity, and bile, GanedenBC30 maintains spore viability without the need for refrigeration. This makes it an ideal product for commercial use.

Water: The Only Liquid the Body Needs To live a fully healthy and functional life, water is indispensible. From the point in history when primitive species moved from the oceans to land, a major factor of survival has continually been stopping dehydration. The important adaptations that enable this are present in almost all species of animals, including man. Water makes up varying percentages of the body weight of humans from 75%

Nutrition and Age Related Macular Fats/Fatty Acids Nutritional fats and fatty acids are a significant source of energy and an essential part of the human diet. Fatty acids are, in fact, central components of fat molecules. DHA and EPA are two of the most important fatty acids that are found in fleshy fish and other aquatic animals and help in the prevention of macular degeneration. Similar to carbohydrates, essential fatty acids are

Nutrition Industry A person who is qualified in all features of nutrition and fit to direct people on improving their health by diet and lifestyle alterations is called a nutritional consultant. A Nutritional Consultant is capable of assessing a person's nutritional requirements by a complete nutritional evaluation based on present lifestyle and eating habits. A proficient Nutritional Consultant realizes that each person has different nutritional requirements and is able to form

Vitamins enhance the body's use of carbohydrates, proteins and fats; help in forming blood cells, hormones, neurotransmitters and the genetic material called DNA; and prevent many health disorders (MSN Encarta 2006). Minerals are metallic elements required for the healthy growth of teeth and bones and in other cellular functions. Excellent food sources of vitamins and minerals include oranges, milk, and sweet potatoes (MSN Encarta). Dietary fiber is either soluble or insoluble

) Therefore, in the light of the above views, a central part of the solution to the problems of poor nutrition in adolescence is an awareness of the problems. This is a first step in the development of any effective program. In other words, the youth should be made more self-aware of poor nutritional habits and the importance of adequate nutritional intake and the way that these factors are often promoted through

It normalizes blood pressure by dilating the blood pathways throughout the body, destroys poisonous carbon dioxide, releases free oxygen and promotes higher metabolism and stimulated enzyme systems. Consuming chlorophyll from wheatgrass has been shown to be a very highly successful way to alkalize and energize the body (Wheatgrass Juice Benefits, 2010). Wheatgrass has been used to treat a number of conditions including the common cold, coughs, bronchitis, fevers, infections, and
