Sarah Eucalano's article that appeared in the Badger Herald, "Bird flu studies to resume shortly" details the research efforts of the international community towards the bird flu epidemic. This work attempts to identify the reasons why research into this field was abandoned, and why it is attempting to recrudesce. It alludes to the seriousness of this particular illness, and makes a plethora of references to the international research community's efforts to counteract some of the negative effects of this virus.
However, the article makes no claims regarding the treatment of the disease. This rather egregious omission is considerably understandable, of course, due to the fact that research on this particular virus had been quiescent for "more than a year" (Eucalano, 2013). At this point, treatment options for this particular virus are still being studied -- or rather, the study of treatment options is just now resuming. The article only alludes to the need for treatment options -- a fact which is evinced by the lethalness of this virus which the author said was responsible for killing ferrets that researchers in the Netherlands inoculated with it (Eucalano, 2013).
The reference to the Dutch researchers is indicative of the magnitude of the bird flu virus. It is due to the seriousness of this particular strain of the flu that research was suspended in...
Ch. 3 from Art of StrategyAs Dixit and Nalebuff (2008) show, the prisoner’s dilemma is a classic example of game theory, in which two players must choose between cooperation and competition. The traditional formulation of the prisoner’s dilemma goes as follows: two criminals are arrested and interrogated separately. Organizational Problem Example of an Organizational Problem An Analysis of a Failed IT Project at the Los Angeles Unified School District Case Overview In January of 2007, the Los Angeles Unified School District began using a new ninety five million dollar IT enterprise system built by SAP with Deloitte Consulting managing the project (Bowers, 2009). The system was built because the entire existing infrastructure was outdated and consisted of a variety of different software
Ethics and Morality One example where the moral judgment of Kant and utilitarianism might conflict is in the nuclear bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Where Kant would argue it is always wrong to kill innocent civilians, utilitarianism would hold that in order to more quickly end World War II, and thus potentially save countless additional lives, the bombing would satisfy utilitarian calculus. An example where Kantianism and libertarianism would conflict may
Another problematic paradigm in qualitative study is standards. The standards to which a study is held are often applied only after the completion of the project, when it is too late to make changes to decisions and problems experienced in the field. Reviewers are disconnected from the research process, and can therefore not truly assess the quality of the process used to arrive at the conclusions of the study. Hence
