¶ … heard from too many users who, otherwise satisfied with MEPIS, complain that it still lacks the ability to mount USB Flash drives without hacking into the fstab file, and that they have never experienced this issue with any other distribution. They have also had difficulty installing the system. I, on the other hand, was extremely pleased with MEPIS and have recommended it to others. Wanting freedom from viruses and from all those commands that Windows Server (as is typical of all Windows and Microsoft programs) has, I found MEPIS to be simpler, far more user friendly, responsive, easier to manage, and pre-installed with remarkable software (although Windows Server has this caliber of software -- and more -- too). As a single downloadable live CD that doubles over as installment and rescue disk, I found the installation of MEPIS to be somewhat slower than that of Windows Server, but once installed I had a portable operational system that I could use wherever I wanted...
Furthermore, since Windows Server 2008 essentially comes from the same code base as Windows Vista and I have had good experience with Windows Vista, I found that it shared much of the same functionality in an improved version. Here was, for instance, improved image installation, deployment and recovery. I was also pleased to discover new security features such as Bitlocker and ASLR.
