The possibility exists that the company could go bankrupt if these fines are levied. Therefore, all of the top people at Google, as well as its top stock holders, have a particular interest in seeing this issue resolved in Google's favor, as their incomes depend on it. Google's lawyers also have an interest in seeing this resolved amicably for the company, as a large portion of their income comes from their work for Google, and because it will shine a favorable light on them as attorneys to be able to win this case for their client. The top company executives who are present in the audience include the president, vice-president, and the heads of all of Google's departments, including the heads of Google's other products, such as Google +1, Blogger, YouTube, Google Voice, and others. These are all people who could be out of work, or even bankrupt themselves, if the FTC fines Google in such a harsh fashion. These people, naturally, want to avoid any fines or semblance of wrong doing on Google's part. Not only would fines be crippling to the company in the amounts proposed, but the company would come out looking badly, and consumers would not trust Google as much anymore, which may lead them to other search engines, like Bing...

The company executives, as well as the top stock holders (who also get a large portion of their incomes from Google), believe that Google should claim ignorance of the tracking of consumers' browsing habits that their illegally placed cookies allowed. They also believe the company should maintain the addition of the cookies to Safari browsers by going around the Safari firewall was also inadvertent. The rules of the FTC state that fines can only be levied if the company did something wrong willfully and in full knowledge that it was illegal. Google's top company executives and stock holders believe the company is in a good position to avoid fines by claiming any privacy violations were not intentional. The company's lawyers agree that this is the best approach to take with the FTC, and that the company's innocence in this regard should not be difficult to prove.
