Finally the film concludes with discussion of the significance of certain pilgrimages, such as those to the holy land. The film also acknowledges the Holocaust and the genocide and persecution of Jews that occurred during this time period, with one scholar saying that one of the saddest aspects of the Holocaust was that the Jews who could survive it, had no place to go. Other scholars comment upon how the aspects of persecution which led up to the Holocaust, were historically very common for all persecuted peoples: segregation, ghettos, being forced to wear a sign/symbol on clothing, restrictions, etc. -- and how all these modes of persecution were very common in the Western world. Historically, Christian realized that their own anti-Semitism throughout the ages had contributed to the Holocaust.
