The only way through this current fight is to keep fighting, so that hopefully one day all people can be treated equally under U.S. And Mexican law, as guaranteed by both countries' legal structure. The power elites and religious leaders are trying to maintain the status quo (Lauer and Lauer, 2004 pp. 258). Without challenging these structures and elites, there can be no hope of change in the coming years.
