The affective component defines the emotional or feeling sentiment and often triggers behavior outcomes. The behavior component of attitude concentrates on the intention to behave in a certain way toward something or something. Working in conjunction with each other, these three components set the foundation for how employees' attitudes are created and sustained over the long-term. Job attitudes also define the level of employee engagement, involvement and satisfaction with or enthusiasm for the work they do. The definition of job satisfaction in the book is very broad, as the authors define it as a very positive feeling about a job resulting from an evaluation of its characteristics. The components that contribute to job satisfaction include providing interesting jobs that provide training, variety, independence and give the employee control over their work. Employee attitudes have an unmistakable effect on the workplace culture, productivity and level of trust generated over time. As the text indicates there is a very strong correlation between job satisfaction and job performance, all leading to a set of Organizational Citizenship Behaviors (OCBs). All of these elements taken together contribute to a highly effective work place.
