¶ … Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program. I chose this program because it is part of a nonprofit organization's attempt to prevent abused and neglected children from getting lost in the welfare system. For this reason, the program chooses court-appointed volunteers to watch over these children. This is a fantastic program because it teaches children about role models and the role an adult can have in a child's life. The program also offers children a stable environment that can be continued until the child is placed in a permanent home. Most importantly, the CASA program has been found to be an effective program, which is great, because, again it helps the children have a stable environment, rather than bounce between foster homes. Despite all these positives, however, I also included some issues and challenges. The first challenger was that a volunteer could become too emotionally attached, and the second includes maybe not following up as much as a volunteer should. Both of these challenges, however, can be overcome with proper monitoring. The first response that addresses a leadership issue that is different from the one I examined above is the response that discusses the Office of the Public Defender. This nonprofit organization provides representation for defendants who are charged with various crimes, ranging from traffic cases to serious felonies. The issues that this person analyzed were interesting and were concerned with both legal and ethical issues. The first issue was that there could be conflict of interest within the organization, due to multiple defendants' participation in one crime with most of them signed out to non-public defender attorneys. As a solution to this first problem, the writer states that he would employ a supervisor who can assign cases with multiple defendants to alleviate stress on attorney. The next response deals with the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (MDJS). This organization is a large state project that supervises juveniles who are at risk and who have been detained due to serious criminal offenses. The organization promotes directive leadership. However, according to the writer, "Behaviors can be questionable depending on society's values and standards of conduct […] some ethical issues and concerns involve fraud, bureaucracy, and budget issues." Thus, in this particular case, as employees interact with juvenile detainees, both ethics and morals are questioned. One of the most important things is to ensure that the organization has the means and the awareness necessary to prevent any crimes from occurring further.

The third response deals with the Children's Home Society of Florida. This, again, is a nonprofit organization, which is also community based. The society is managed by a board, but the executive director is regarded as the mover in the organization. This is due to his "impeccable integrity and leadership style which has significantly raised the agency's profile and charitable donations," according to the author in this response. The writer also describes ethical issues, one of which includes conflicts of interest. However, conflicts of interests are recommended to be solved by the agency's ensuring transparency in all its operations. For this reason, the executive director organized a citizen-board to oversee its operations, according to the author.

Another issue that had to be discussed was too much transparency, in a way. This had to do with an agency that shredded confidential documents. However, the leadership remedied this as well.
