Apprenticeships allow anyone who is interested in their work to receive high quality instruction from industry experts. Moreover, apprenticing entails being personally connected to every aspect of a business and its trades. An employee who understands why a certain task is carried out is far more likely to develop the skills to succeed in any field. Too much division of labor has created a workforce with astonishingly high levels of employee dissatisfaction. Company loyalty would be enormously improved if apprenticeships became the norm. Furthermore, employers who develop personal relationships with trainees as mentors are more likely to treat their trainees with respect. A resurgence in apprenticeships can help create a more egalitarian society, one in which all individuals are empowered and respected as part of an integrated economy.
