Seventy-five percent of the school shootings over the past decade have been related to bullying (Vessey). Because bullying is a social problem of the collective, it might be more successful in changing the peer group norms that reinforce bullying, which is the basic operating principle of school-wide anti-bullying programs (Juvonen). The worst thing anyone can do is to do nothing or assume that bullying behaviors are harmless (Vessey). The best intervention is communication. Parents should talk to their children and schools should incorporate discussions of bullying behaviors in classes (Vessey).
