The instrument that I would use to gather data would be the written survey method. The appropriate sample size would be 2000 patients and patients would be selected randomly from the pool of patients being discharged daily. There would be a quota to be met daily and participants would be randomly selected to participate in the survey until the quote for that day is met. The participants should be able to complete the survey within five minutes time and questions should be open-ended so that they can be easily analyzed and tabulated for quick analysis using quantitative analysis methods following the collection of data.

The survey method is appropriate for collecting data, as is the questionnaire method (Kazi & Khalid, 2012), from participants using closed questions that...

Nursing Research How Data Collection Influences Statistics Data collection influences statistics in several ways. First, data is collected according to a "category scheme," which is the establishment of meaningful categories in which the data is collected and analyzed (Polit & Beck, 2008, p. 508). If the category scheme is not well developed and meaningful, adequate data may not be effectively collected and examined to inform the nurse researcher about whatever topic he/she
This reduces response bias for better reliability of the information gathered and a higher anticipated response rate for an adequate sample size. A one month time frame gives better assurance of an appropriate response rate adequate analysis of results. 446). Again, since data collection methods are relevant to specific research studies based on their questions, hypotheses, and literature reviews, this funneling of "phenomena of interest" should ideally suit most research studies -- so long as the those methods are tailored to meet a particular study. When researchers have narrowed down certain characteristics or behaviors that they are looking to observe in their study, they can do with a
Running head: DATA COLLECTION, RELIABILITY AND VALIDITY DATA COLLECTION, RELIABILITY AND VALIDITY 8AbstractReliability is a measure of consistency; that is, how well a measure or instrument measures something. Validity, on the other hand, is a measure of accuracy; that is, the extent to which a study or instrument measures what it is expected to measure. The first part of this text reviews some steps that researchers could take to enhance
Nurses' Work Schedule Characteristics, Nurse Staffing, and Patient Mortality" (Trinkoff, et al. 2011 p 1). The authors argue that lower nursing staff level can lead to poor patients' outcome and poor care, however, higher nursing skills mix can assist in recording lower mortality rates. In overall, increase in a number of nursing staff is associated with improving patient outcome. The authors use the quantitative technique to collect data from
