..the giant salamander, 2010, Cryptozooscity). There are fears that giant salamanders may meet the same fate as dinosaurs, given that modern life has exposed them to quick-moving, larger-brained humans who consider them a delicacy and will hunt them with greater determination than previous predators. The amphibian's size makes them "lucrative prey for hunters, who can sell the flesh for around U.S.$100 per kg (£30 per lb)," a considerable sum when one salamander can grow to over one hundred pounds (Black 2005). "They are protected species; but in China, illegal hunting is bringing them within sight of extinction" (Black 2005). Observed one conservationist: "They are easy to catch, hiding in rock crevasses during the day, and people know where to find them" (Black 2005).

The loss of these giant relics would not merely be a loss of a link to human evolutionary history of the past: the salamanders may also provide humans with keys to improving biodiversity in the future. Despite their vulnerability to being hunted, they are immune to the fungal...

"If scientists can figure out why, they can possibly use the knowledge to help other salamanders and frogs" (Giant salamanders, 2010, CNN). The knowledge gained about the past from these large animals, in terms of why other animals such as the dinosaurs become extinct, and also how to protect more numerous amphibians from a rapidly-spreading illness cannot be discounted.

Extinction Theory and Its Impact in Contemporary Society The apparently sudden mass extinction of Dinosaurs marks the boundary between the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods. This catastrophic event has also triggered a large amount of interest in both scientific and general communities. Many speculations have thus been made regarding the reasons for the death of the dinosaurs. These include extreme changes in the global climate and sea levels, and supernova explosions. During the

Near the middle of the sea in what is now Kansas sediments were deposited at a fast rate creating about an inch of compacted chalk each 700 years. Some of the worlds finest fossils have been discovered here. The crinoid Uintacrinus and fish Ichthyodectes are two examples. (Fossilmuseum.net NP) When other regions have such finds they are news, while the shelf and chalk deposit areas of the Western Interior Seaway

Biology and Evolution: The Case of Snakes Snakes are incredible creatures. They have evolved very unique features that have allowed them to adapt to a wide number of environments. Snakes can be fond in some of the hottest deserts, the densest swamps, and even on the ocean floor. Part of their success comes from the physiological evolution of their organs and anatomical structures that has provided for their evolutionary success. The snake's

Vertebrates It is common knowledge that the human body consists of about 65% water. People cannot live any longer than five days without H20. Individuals of all ages love to sail the oceans, swim in the sea and soar under or speed across the waves. It comes as no surprise, then, that some part of the human psyche remembers millions and millions of years ago before animals came on shore. What

Objects in Space Many objects move around in space that proves to be a threat to the planet earth and its components. There is a chance of collision in relation to the number of objects in the space thus the need to adopt and implement preventive or tracking measures towards minimization of the effects. One of the effects of the collision of the numerous objects moving in the space is death

Continental tropical (cT) air masses are hot, dry, unstable at low levels and generally stable aloft (upper-level ridge); they originate in northern Mexico. Continental polar (cP) or continental arctic (cA) air masses are cold, dry, and stable originating over northern Canada and Alaska as a result of radiational cooling. (Oklahoma Climatological Survey, 2004)" The greenhouse effect has been in the news for the last several decades especially with the resulting
