Social skills will be necessary for me to connect to the individuals in my team. Building good communication and rapport with them is one way of establishing good work relationship. Another way to connect to the individuality of my team members is through empathy. It is important to acknowledge the diversity of every individual in my team by understanding their differences, culture, and personality.

What can organizations do to help develop the emotional intelligence of their managers as well as other employees?

An organization can create training programs or seminars meant for developing the managers' and employees' emotional intelligence. Such programs may either focus on team-building exercises or individual exercises in which the employees can test and improve their emotional intelligence.

Extra-curricular programs for developing emotional intelligence may not involve the main job responsibilities of the employees, but should have the capability to exercise their emotional intelligence; how they are able to react and adapt on different situations. For instance, workshops...

This will be made possible by the work relationship that they will experience in their project tasks. Individual exercises may also help employees improve their emotional intelligence. Andy Smith, in his online article Advice to Improve Your Emotional Intelligence, has the following 5 tips from which emotional intelligence exercises may be based.
Develop your emotional self-awareness.

Take responsibility for your actions and feelings.

Remember - you are not your emotions.

Put yourself in the other person's shoes.

Get some distance from the bad stuff.
