Out of all the original candidates I would choose the 10 that got the top scores on the optimism test, and ask them to come in and take a job skills and job knowledge test for the company.

Once that was complete I would select the candidates with the top five scores on that testing process and ask them to come into the human resource office for personal interviews.

Personal interviews provide a feel for the person and how he or she would ultimately fit into the organization.

Once I conducted interviews with each of the five candidates I would then choose the three that I felt would fit the most closely with the team members already in place in the department that had the opening. I would then set those three up with interviews with the department head and ask the department head to select the one he or she wished to offer the position to.

My interview questions would be varied as my job is to locate the three or four best qualified and most personable candidates for the department head to interview and choose from.

The questions would be as follows:

1. Tell me about your last position.

2. What did you like best about it?

3. What did you like least about it?

4. What do you know about our company?

5. What would you like to know about our company?

6. What are you most proud of in your previous position?

7. What flaws in your personality might interfere with your job and how do you minimize that problem?

8. Why did you leave your last position?

9. If I called your former boss and asked him to tell me about you in three words,...

...

If I called your former co-workers with the same question what words would they use?
11. How do you handle stress on the job?

12. Have you ever been fired?

13. Have you ever been insubordinate to a co-worker or a superior?

14. Why do you want to work here?

15. Where do you want to be in five years? Ten years?

A like to use the biographical interviewing method because it allows the applicant to relax and converse with me as if he is chatting with someone at a neighborhood dinner. In a relaxed conversation many more important details come out. In addition I can get a feel about what that applicant will be like in his or her daily interactions with the public and co-workers as well.

The biographical interview method is preferred over others because it provides the applicant with enough control in the interview to put him or her at ease and show me what he or she has to offer the company.

Researching the hiring for this position involves several steps. First I will find out what job duties the position will entail and what job experience can be applied to this position.

Next I will post job opening announcements on bulletin boards and online to attract as many possible applicants as possible.

First consideration will be given to those already employed by the company who wish to advance or make a lateral move.

The final candidate who is offered the position however, will be well qualified, optimistic and resilient. He or she will be able to deal with the public on a daily basis and be a team players with regard to co-workers.

Human Resources Management If what is learned in an important college or university course is not put to use in some pragmatic way -- or understood in the larger social context -- then that learning may be viewed as meaningless time spent. No doubt there is a percentage of students that are simply going through the process of education, working for a degree that will open doors and lead, hopefully, to
