Intelligence is the capacity of our mind to comprehend, to understand and profit from experience. It is having capacity for thought and reason especially to a definitive high degree.
A person's intellectual capacity can be attributed from a lot of factors. Major determinants are contributed by our brain and genetic inheritance.
Our body is extensively run by the highest part of our body, the brain. Brain is part of our central nervous system located within the cranium or skull that includes the higher nervous centers. It functions as primary recipient, organizer and distributor of information in the body. It is considered as the seat of the faculty of reason responsible to one's thought, feelings.
According to researches made by AM J. Psychiatry, cerebral, intracranial, temporal lobe, cerebellar and hippocampal volume were found to extensively correlate with full-scale IQ of a human being. Full scale, performance and verbal capacity I.Q. were significantly correlated with overall gray matter volume but not with white matter. Gender differences were also logged in the pattern and number of correlations between the brain itself and its sub-regions and full scale, verbal and performance I.Q. With this breakthrough, it can be insinuated that the size of some cerebral structures may be responsible for a significant proportion of the cause of human intelligence.
Another main determinant of a person's intelligence can be plucked out from genetic structure of a person. There have been researches that brain is under tightly managed by our genes and larger part of it is the higher intelligence. Genetic factors put up on the characteristics and attribution of the hardware of our brain and thus on our ability to compute accurately and successfully, judge and think logically. We have to take note that severe deprivation of healthy diet, neglecting fit nutritional level and the resulting deficiencies in brain tissue are a known cause of mental sub-normality and affect a person's intelligence.
Genetic factors are responsible for almost everything that establishes the core of a particular individual. Almost all diseases and abnormalities are the result of our genetic predisposition such autism, neurofibromatosis and other genetic diseases. There are instances wherein part of a person's immunity, susceptibility and resistance to some infectious diseases are inherited and form part of his genes.
Our character and personality effect our emotions and sensation and is part of our genetic heritage. Lethargy and laziness is frequently inherited factor and thus, determines the input and other resources available from our environment. A human being who is too tired and lazy to learn will not profit as much from education as a highly motivated individual with the same level of intelligence.
