¶ … Mermaid Advertisement
Advertisement analysis
The advertisement used here (attached) is of a mermaid called Ariel from the famous 'The Little mermaid' who is depicted as a fan of collecting the valuables that humans lose or leave by mistake in the waters. The objects collected by this mermaid range from pans, pots, forks, books, treasures, flashlights and such like valuables. This made me connect it to the Goodwill Stores which is the drop-point that the donors and well wishers can leave their donations and also acts as the convergence point where the needy will come purchase the goods at a, highly subsidized prices and in this way helping the community through the kindness of the mermaid.
The name of the fairy used is Ariel and is conspicuously depicted on the advertisement in order to attract the attention of the viewers. Ariel is also placed at the foreground in order to be the focal point and the point from where all the other details of the advert radiate from. On the advert, she is depicted to be holding the treasure box and on the right hand she is holding a highly treasured and glittering piece of artifact which she is giving out from the box. This indicates the philanthropy that is behind the whole act of treasure collection.
At the top of the piece are the writings communicating the need for donation of the things that one may not need to help those who may be in need. The striking part of this writing is the first word which acts as the key and lead word. DONATE is written in upper case and in yellow color, which is an advancing color. This is intentional since it is the focus of the entire campaign, it is meant to attract as many donations as possible hence to attract the viewers to the central message the word is written in capital and in bright color that strikes the visual attention immediately one looks at the advert. The advert also uses the image of a cave within the sea bed and in the shelves gorged from the wall are all types of gifts stuffed there. This is intentional to communicate to the viewers that all manner of gifts and donations are accepted and will be helpful in another person's needs. The predominant color of the piece of advert is blue, which is a color that is often associated with sobriety and calmness. This indicates that the step of donation is voluntary and conscious. At the very bottom is the name of the collection center written in bold and bigger fonts than all the other writings. This shifts the attention of the viewer from only the donation request to the organization that is conducting this drive. This will solidify the credibility of the campaign as the organization concerned is reliable and well founded hence encourage more people to donate.
The advert is intended for the local members of the society who may be having things that they do not use or need yet it is stuffed in the house. The age of the target audience is of all ranges, from the young to the old since they all may have even a pair of shoes they do not use yet it may be of help to those in necessity. The most preferred publication to be used in passing out the advert is a community monthly that circulates majorly among the members of the community. There will also be posters pinned on the notice boards of the common areas and malls that the members of the community usually frequent.
