Macromedia's beginning can be found as a small company whose aim was to market the graphics software on pen computers. The important lesson that the founders of this company obtained through this experience was that users dislike to learn complex features in a program, therefore, the challenge lies in writing good software that is easy to use. Its one of the products SmartSketch as a success to provide users to draw on the computer. With the advent of the Internet, the company began to focus on 2-D computer animation to enable users to create a profitable product. In the beginning its products were slow and programming was cumbersome. However, later it began to build its products with plug-in API, which extended the performance of the animation. We started to talk about shipping SmartSketch Animator. In the summer of 1996, the company started to get a large share of recognition as its products were being used by Microsoft Networks, in which the company wanted to create the most television like experience. Its other high profile client besides Microsoft was Disney Online. Disney was using FutureSplash. Presently its animated products are being used in government agencies, K-12 education, higher education, rich internet applications, e-Learning, DVD playback, flash integration, JavaScript syntax, mobile devices, web services.

Quality of Macromedia

The attractiveness of Micromedia can be seen through its uses as it enhances the experiences of the Websites and Webconferencing. It can add value to live meetings, besides providing values to companies to archive and search content from previous sessions and to maintain persistent online meeting areas for regular meetings.

Since Micromedia is going through several versions and it requires much of code that written for pen computers, it often exhibits some defects. The evolution of Macromedia is based from a simple web drawing and animation package to a complete multimedia development environment with 500,000 developers and 250 million users of the player; it is often shows signs of defects through poor animation or flash. At presently, Flash has become a common ingredient of providing several kinds of animated experiences to the users. Macromedia's software -- Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Cold Fusion -- builds and maintains websites, and the many new features in complex applications can take some time to get used to users (Stratford, 2003).

Fireworks MX 2004 gives web developers the tools they need from simple graphical buttons to sophisticated rollover effects and pop-up menus. Fireworks also offers the flexibility to import files from all major graphics formats and allows users to integrate and edit both vector and bitmap images.
Each of the MX 2004 products shares a consistent interface, design, development elements and functionality to enable developers to work more efficiently across multiple products.

Using Studio MX with Flash Professional, developers can easily design Flash and HTML web forms, add components, integrate with data, and build in application logic and navigation.

Cost

Though Macromedia freely distributes a number of its products freely to provide users the experience of the animation, however, it charges money to corporations, educational institutions, and other organizations that make its use for their business purposes.

Its products such as Studio MX 2004 is available for Mac OS 10.2.6 and Windows, whose price ranges from $1,000 for new users, $500 for upgrades from Studio MX, AUD$650 for upgrades from any eligible product, and $350 for education customers.

Macromedia DevNet Professional members receive the products contained in Studio MX 2004 automatically as part of their annual subscription. Education, corporate and government volume licensing will is also available. Macromedia Flash Player 7 is available as a free download from www.macromedia.com.

Fireworks MX 2004, available for Mac OS 10.2.6 and Windows, is priced at $300 for new users, AUD$189 for upgrades from Fireworks MX and Fireworks 4, and AUD$190 for education customers. The product is available as part of Macromedia Studio MX 2004.
