Abraham Maslow grouped needs from the most basic to the luxurious bit (“How Maslow’s Famous Hierarchy of Needs Explains Human Motivation,” 2021). In his theory, he grouped the needs into five taking the shape of a pyramid with basic needs taking the lowest and more significant part of the pyramid. Charlie’s employees are motivated by the need for esteem located on the second level from the apex. The factory employees view the increase in garbage collectors salary as disrespectful to them who may have an academic qualification. Therefore, they need to be recognized and respected concerning their remuneration.

By promising to follow up, employees will feel cared for (HR, 2021).

With employees earning a similar amount to the proposed garbage workers average, it seems unfair that they are demanding salary increments. Charlie should research the current industry rates and know how the current rates were arrived at. At the meeting, Charlie should explain to them that the working conditions at the factory are better than those for garbage collectors. He should make them feel valued no matter the remuneration. He should, however, promise a follow-up (HR, 2021).
