The article details several aspects of the story that are of interest to us. Particularly, that the man ultimately suffered the need for a transplant of his own causes investigation into the potential dangers of being a live, healthy kidney donor. Ultimately, research suggests this to be a rare case, with one study noting that of 3700 donors in one trial, only 11 suffered this outcome.
