No, according to the article, many orchestral professions are very demanding and difficult, particularly at the higher levels of proficiency. Due to these higher levels, there is a limited number of substitutes who could qualify as suitable alternatives. The skill and ability required to reach these levels of performance is high. It is therefore my contention that a orchestral musician is not a “Cush Job.” These characterizations of the profession, I believe, is a result of misinformation on the part of the public. Here, people only see the result and often neglect to see the overall magnitude of the work required (Stone, 2020).

2. Do you think it is fair for orchestral musicians to receive federal funding form the CARES act?

Yes, they should as they have been adversely impacted from the COVID-19 impacts due to no fault of their own. There profession has also been heavily impacted as they are unable to preform in venues that could not adhere to the various COVID-19 mandates. This ultimately resulted in a loss of economic incentive to maintain a high-quality orchestra as the public at large were unable to enjoys its services. As a result, the orchestra should participate in the cares act (Sprunt, 2020).
