Socialization during adolescence and young adulthood is a relevant issue for this author personally, but it has grown to be a fundamental element to personal and professional success in the 21st century. Most of the people in the world are in the midst of the digital or information age. Networking is not just a term for servers and IT. Professionals must know how to network, which often means both formal and informal socialization, to make contacts, secure deals, and it is generally a part of the international business practice. Learning to socialize well and to cultivate social intelligence is a profitable skill no matter what a person's interests are or even no matter how outgoing or secure they feel. It is possible to effectively socialize in pairs, small groups, and large groups. Networking clearly occurs online, too. Socialization involves confidence, public speaking, active listening, recognition and interpretation of body language/facial expressions, and more.
