Policies and Procedures Health and Safety Guidelines There are several elements to health and safety guidelines that must be adhered to. The presence of equipment, hot water, and chemicals all represent safety hazards to the workers. Furthermore, to the extent that the operation carries cash, and may be at risk for robbery, there are other safety considerations that need to be taken into account. There will be electrical equipment in this environment, a risk given that water will be everywhere on site and its spray uncontrolled.

A further risk is that customers will be operating the car wash, meaning that employees do not have full control over the equipment. OSHA has published a list of the common citations specific to the car wash industry, including fall protection, hazard communication, scaffolding, respiratory protection, control of hazardous energy, machines, wiring and more (Lawless, 2012). A lot of health and safety guidelines can be resolved through the design of the facility. The design will minimize the use of height, thereby reducing the risks associated with scaffolding, ladders, etc.

Each car wash station will have an elevated platform adjacent, with serrated metal grate stairs to prevent slippage. This platform will enable customers to wash roofs of even tall vehicles without putting themselves at risk. All electrics will be fully water-proofed. Other design features will be built following OSHA guidelines. Chemicals used will be approved by OSHA for use in carwashes, to minimize respiratory risk. The site will not have conveyors, which form one of the major risk hazards for a conventional car wash (OSHA, 2009).

All moving parts will have guards on them, to minimize the risk of hoses, hair, limbs or clothing become caught. Two employees will be needed at all times, so that if something does happen to one, the other can call for help, stop equipment or otherwise limit the risk. Further, two employees minimizes the risk of robbery. The other health and safety guideline is that training can mitigate risk to the employees. The senior manager will be tasked with training as a critical job function.

A training program will be developed, to highlight the safety risks for staff, and to provide them with information as to how to mitigate risk. Important items to discuss include electrical hazards, chemicals, and hazards associated with the use of equipment. A health and safety auditor -- known as an industrial hygiene specialist - will be hired to review the facility prior to opening, to ensure that management, ownership and the employees are all aware of the different risk areas, and that these risk areas are mitigated. B.

Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Policies The company will follow the federal, state and local statutes with respect to discrimination, including the Title IX of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and its subsequent amendments, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 and the different acts regarding pay equality such as the Equal Pay Act of 1963.

As a matter of company policy, Selfie's will not tolerate discrimination in employment, pay or promotion on the basis of any of the above, nor on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity either. Selfie's promotes equality in its business, and provides full and equal opportunity to all. This is a matter of business sense.
