¶ … children attend school every day and while they are there, their parents want them to be safe and sound. That includes when they are on the playground, lunchroom, and in the classroom. The equipment in which that the school use should be safe so that will be injured during school hours. And, when the students become older and want to attend vocational school, the equipments and machines that the school and teachers have for the classroom must be extremely safe while working with them. This is a must since when a person is in vocational school; they are working with power tools and heavy equipment while in the classroom. When it comes to safety in vocational school, there is also a health issue due to the fact that some of the machines might be a health hazard to the students and teachers.
The machines and equipment in which the Massachusetts vocational school and all other vocational schools might use could give off some bad fumes and damage the young student's health. And, vocational school is supposed to get students ready to out and onto the workforce. Safety and health issues are very important in workplace, therefore, they should be taught in vocational school so that students know what to expect when they are working in an environment that require the use of machines. In other words, safety and health regulations should be taught and enforce during vocational school so that young adults who had just graduated from school will know what to expect from their new workplace. And, that is updated safety and health regulations around the machines.
During the time of vocational school, the teachers should carefully instruct the students on how to use power tool the proper way because of safety and health reasons. After the students have learned the safety and health regulations of vocational work, they are less likely to get injured by the equipment and machines at their future job site.
But, it is known that it is sometimes hard to keep a student's attention for very long periods of time. The best thing for vocational teachers to do is to show videos about the safety of using machines and power tools in the classroom. And, an example would be the video "Using hand and power tools. This tape investigates all the potentially dangerous conditions related to the use of hand and power tools. It also looks at the unambiguous tool groups and the exceptional hazards linked with them. General safety rules and emergency procedures are also presented (safety).
Another possible video that the vocational teacher could present to the students would be "Woodworking shop safety." It talks about the possible hazards of working with pointed tools and cutting equipment. And, it also gives explanation how to operate the a variety of types of machines appropriately. This particular video does demonstrate proper clothing and eye protection, which is very important when doing wood shop work (safety).
These videos and other ones could be very helpful to the student ass well as the teacher so that they can both be up-to-date with safety and health regulations. By viewing the tapes, the students should also learn the vocational health and safety standards. The vocational health and safety are listed below.
Each machine shall be so assembled, installed and sustained as to be free from disproportionate vibration. Arbors and mandrels shall be so constructed, installed and maintained as to have solid and safe bearing and be free from play. Machines and equipment that requires the presence of an operator shall not be left unattended while in process or still in movement (vocational education).
On all non-portable mechanical equipment and machinery, a magnetic-type switch shall be made available to put a stop to machines from mechanically restarting upon reinstatement of power after an electrical failure or electric cutoff. Power controls and operating controls shall be to be found within easy reach of the worker while the worker is at the standard work location, thereby making it pointless to reach over the point of operation to make alterations (vocational educational).
Each machine operated by electrical power shall be made available with certain means for depiction it inoperative while maintenance or tool changes are being made. Rush-type urgent situation cutout switches shall be made available at suitable locations within shops to dc-energize the electrical supply to non-portable machinery in accordance with accordance of the N.J.A.C 6:22-5.4 (f) 1. Power tools and machines in shops, which make dust, shall be offered with dust collecting equipment in accordance with the N.J.A.C 5:22-6.4 (b) (vocational education).
Even though the health and safety standards for vocational education were presented to all students, there were many reports of injuries among young adult workers. So, the Training Intervention Effectiveness Research of Vocational Education Safety and Health Instructional Materials--New -- The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) proposed to study the effectiveness of safety and health curricula to be made available for secondary vocational schools in the 98-99 school year (NIOSH federal register).
And, it was made cleared that studies conducted by NIOSH suggest that over half of all young workers injured on-the-job believe that they did not receive adequate safety and health training in school or from their employers (NIOSH federal register).
The National Safety Council calculates approximately that nearly one-half (48.1%) of all work-related wounds are continued by employees with less than one year of work experience. Furthermore, feedback from end-users of past NIOSH vocational education resources specifies that these materials do not sufficiently meet the needs of vocational teachers and students. Given these contemplations, further training intervention effectiveness research is needed to recognize those educational move towards that are most effective in shaping the attitudes and behaviors of new workers (NIOSH federal register).
After young adult vocational workers, there have fewer injuries made r this study was conducted. This is because they have received better vocational training at all vocational schools including Massachusetts.
Since they have a better vocational training in school, they can also find better jobs to support themselves in the future. It is necessary to have the proper training any job so that a person wills not injury themselves permanently (educational world). And, now most of all of vocational schools including Massachusetts have the right training for students who desire vocational skills. Therefore, in the future, students are less likely to hurt themselves on the job during their first year in the workplace.
