Scholarships
There are several reasons which make me suitable for a scholarship. A first of these reasons is given by my understanding of education and learning. Education is the pillar of any civilized society and the core element of any successful life. However exceptions exist, such as the case of college drop-out Bill Gates who came to be the richest man in the world, these situations are rare and only come to reaffirm the previous rule. Education makes the individual great; it transforms him from ordinary into extraordinary. The process of learning has the ability to open new doors and create new opportunities for personal and professional growth and development. In this order of ideas, education introduces the individual to new cultures, new ideas and new norms of behavior, while also helping him achieve superior comprehension of the cultures, ideas and norms with which he is already familiar. All these features, alongside with numerous other benefits of education, transform the individual into a valuable addition to the family, the community, the society and the workplace.
Given the previously stated understanding of education, the second reason is based on my commitment to education. My appetite for learning was opened in early childhood and even as soon and kindergarten, I began to ask questions and strive to gain as much knowledge as possible. Probably these efforts were motivated by the early realization that information is power. As I developed throughout the school years, I strived to learn more than what was requested by the official curricula and often took in additional assignments. Furthermore, I read books and articles that were not requested by our teachers, all with the intent of learning more. I think the reason behind this quest for knowledge was given by the desire to be able to sustain a conversation in as many fields as possible. This conviction is emphasized directly in my approach to reading as I almost always finish a book I began, even if I do not like it. I do this in order to gain the ability to say that I read that particular book and that I did or did not like it for specific reasons. I do the same with articles, situation in which I strive to read as many opinions as possible and formulate an unbiased stand.
Aside a great appetite for education and a commitment in this direction, the third reason why I deserve this scholarship is given by some personal characteristics and goals. For instance, I will try as hard as possible to become integrated within your academic program and sustain my colleagues, while in the same time fostering the sense educational competition. While I cannot promise that my results will be perfect, I can ensure anyone that I will continually do my best and go the extra mile to become a valuable and noteworthy member of your program, the educational system and the society.

As a child, I did not have access to computers and my interactions with the it field were generally reduced. Throughout high school however, I would often go to internet cafes and access the World Wide Web for information related to school projects or personal research. At that time, the it industry was flourishing and the personal computers had already increased their presence within households. With the declining retail prices in computers, the purchasing of a PC finally became affordable for my family. I remember being in awe about the abundance of information and the easy accessibility of this data, from the comfort of my own home. I would stay up at night in search of new arguments and new opinions relative to the subjects and topics that interested me at that stage of my life.
The actual it operations conducted at the beginning were limited to the usage of an internet browser, later on a chat program, an editing program or listening to music. As time went by however, I began to notice more and more features of the computer and the internet. I was curious about the mechanisms behind them and I often researched it articles. They were rather difficult to understand, especially for someone like me who had no previous expertise in the field of Information Technology. In time however, I came to perform more complex tasks and these significantly improved the quality of my research. Additionally, more complex operations were not only performed in terms of scholarly and personal research efforts, but also in terms of actual operations which ended up improving the quality of my life. The most relevant example in this sense is given by the usage of the credit card and online account.
Upon high school graduation, I moved away from home and enrolled in the courses of a community college. The money was generally tight but I did not want to get a full time job out of fear that it would impede with my studies. I nonetheless spent some time tutoring and as such increased my income. A major factor impeding with my studies, as it took a great deal of time, was that of paying the bills. I would have to stay in numerous lines for hours to pay for the electricity, telephone or other bills.
Searching the World Wide Web for solutions, the search engine retrieved information on online banking. I had previously heard about it, but was under the impression that it was a financial service specially designed for economic agents and that it had no immediate applicability for individual consumers. I logged on to a students' forum and discussed the online account with several peers. I inquired about it at my bank and found that they did indeed provide such a service for individual customers at a monthly rate of $4. I asked them to sign me up for the online account and requested some information on how it works. The information received at the bank's front desk was rather scarce, but I was still confident that I would manage to use the financial service without any problems. I did however encounter some minor challenges, but quickly overcame them. Today, I pay all my bills and other obligations online. I even asked the students I tutor and my parents to charge my bank account and I receive notifications whenever changes occur. Most importantly however, I gained about five hours a month by not having to stand in line to pay my bills -- this gain in time was allocated to research and study, making as such this experience with the credit card and online account the best one.

Our generation has the net advantage of being raised in the era of it developments. We grew alongside with the industry and we are as such able to understand and apply it more easily than the previous generations. Yet, in terms of financial elements, we do face some challenges which are greater than the challenges faced by the older generations. The most relevant example in this sense is given by the contemporaneous economic crisis, which emerged within the United States real estate industry, to soon expand to other industries and other countries as well.
The current economic crisis affects all generations, but the magnitude of the impact is stronger upon our generation. While the representatives of the past generations have already set their professional path and are now generally focused on maintaining their job status, we are still struggling to prove our worth. In these times of economic hardship however, it becomes more difficult for us to benefit from promotional opportunities. This basically means that our chances to professionally affirm ourselves and be rewarded with more money are reduced.
