Student Privacy Policies It is always a difficult situation when students create conditions in which other students are put into dangerous situations. As a principal of a school, it is my function to ensure that all the students in my school are safe and healthy. Hence, when a student is placed in danger by another student who provides or endorses drugs, I have to consider the situation in a very serious light. For the particular case in this situation, I therefore need to consider issues of guilt, innocence, and culpability when it comes to the conditions in terms of the case. In order to determine the specific issues of the case involved, I need to make sure that every student and every parent receives fair treatment according to the law. Once the specific questions surrounding the case have been considered, a fair decision can be made.

In terms of Julia's situation, her parents will necessarily have to be part of the IEP process. According to the law, whenever an issue arises that involves an IEP student, parents need to be part of the process. Since the parents are the primary caretakers, they are also the primary stakeholders in the situation. Being in special education, it might be surmised that Julia is not as fully protected from deviant behavior and associated dangers as her counterparts in the mainstream classes. Hence, when problems like drugs make their appearance, the parents need to be included. In addition, it is also most likely that the mainstream teacher and IEP personnel will be included in the meeting. The appropriate course of action will probably be determined by means of a mediating process that includes Julia, her parents, and her IEP educators.
According to the UnderstandingSpecialEducation website, all students have the right to due process. Hence, if the mediating process proved unsatisfactory to the parents, they have the right to appeal the decision and take further legal action with the assistance of their attorney.
