Program Reflection
Following my graduation from college, I hope to pursue a career in criminal justice. Within the field of criminal justice, there are a number of different roles that I could potentially pursue. Like many students studying criminal justice, I am unsure of which specific role I hope to pursue. However, I am certain that I want to work within the federal corrections system. This system is in need of reform, and I hope to be a part of the change. In addition, I believe that my experience as a corrections officer will be valuable in this role.
In five years, I do have some hope to be working as a federal corrections investigator. This position would allow me to use my skills to help improve the conditions within the federal corrections system. In ten years, I believe I could build on that experience and be working as a federal correctional consultant. This position would allow me to share my knowledge and experience with others in order to help them improve the criminal justice system at the local level.
One of the most valuable things I have learned in this program is how to conduct effective research. In my future career, I will often need to track down evidence and information that can be used to support or refute various claims. This will require being able to quickly and efficiently locate relevant sources, evaluate their credibility, and extract the relevant information. I have also developed strong writing skills that will be useful in creating reports and memos as an investigator. Overall, this program has given me the skills and knowledge I need to be successful in returning to federal corrections and becoming an investigator/consultant.
Another aspect of this program that I have found to be helpful is the focus on prevention and risk management, which is very important considering the risks that we are all taking in the digital age—what with cybercrime being so rampant now. By learning how to identify and avoid risks, I will be better able to protect myself and those under my care from the dangers of the digital age. In addition, this program will also teach me how to effectively respond to cyber threats. By gaining a better understanding of cybercrime and its consequences, I will be better equipped to protect my fellow investigators and the general public from these dangers. Cybercrime is a growing threat, and it is essential that we all take steps to prevent it from harming us. This program's focus on prevention and risk management will help me do just that.
During my time in the program, I have come to realize that the criminal justice system is much more complex than that. There are many different stakeholders involved in the system, each with their own priorities and agendas. In addition, the system is constantly changing, making it difficult to keep up with the latest developments. As a result, my perceptions about the field of criminal justice have changed significantly over time. I have come to appreciate the complexities of the system and to understand that there is no easy solution to the problems it faces.
However, as a future federal corrections consultant, I will be expected to have a deep understanding of best practices in the field. During my time in this program, I have had the opportunity to research and learn about a variety of evidence-based practices that can be effective in corrections settings. In my future career, I plan to use these practices to help my clients improve their operations and achieve their desired outcomes.
One of the key things I have learned is the importance of data-driven decision making. I have seen firsthand how correctional facilities can benefit from collecting and analyzing data to inform their policies and procedures. In my work as a consultant, I will help my clients to establish systems for tracking key performance indicators and using data to drive continuous improvement.
