1.) Tell us explicitly about your study habits; how do you go about preparing for exams and learning? How effective have your study strategies been in the past? Do not use vague terms like study, review, go over, look over, and the like. What behaviors are you doing when you study? What strategies have been most effective for you? Least effective?
Study habits are the behaviors that an individual develops as he is learning. I prepare for exams and learn in several ways. The first habit is finding a good place to study. Finding an excellent location to study is considered one of the most crucial studying elements. I always ensure that I get a quiet place to learn and revise my exams to minimize distractions. Likewise, I confirm that I minimize distractions by turning off the WI-FI, being mindful of the phone, and studying with a friend to help me stay more focused and accountable. I also take breaks while looking to prevent tiredness and boredom. These studying strategies have been influential in the past since I have been able to cover more topics within a short time. I participate in some behaviors when studying. The first is to set study goals for every study session I have. The plans are content-based or even time-based, and I make them depending on my strengths. I also reward myself after reaching these goals, which helps me become more motivated to complete a task. The most effective strategy is studying in a quiet place without distraction. The one that has been least effective is looking in large groups. When we learn a large number, I become easily distracted, making it hard to achieve my study goals.
2.) Give a comprehensive summary of EACH of the FIVE videos by Dr. Stephen Chew. Please identify which video to which you are referring by labeling them; for example:
Video 1: Discussion Summary
The video mainly shows the bad reading habits that students mostly have. They believe that learning fast and many books make them succeed, but it may make them fail since they are straining to read a lot, and they rarely spend more time understanding what they learn. To succeed in their education, they must display hard work and commitment (Chew, 2011).
Video 2: Discussion Summary
People learn differently, and they often relate their education to the things happening in their lives. An example of a learning strategy is deep processing. It entails analyzing the language that is used through a mental recall. It also entails looking at how words can work together to create meaning.
Video 3: Discussion Summary
Cognitive principles are considered essential for optimizing learning. Being motivated to learn is not crucial, but people's learning strategies can determine if the students succeed. Achieving a deep learning process is based on elaboration, distinctiveness, being personal, and using the correct retrieval of information and its application.
Video 4: Discussion Summary
A student can use several strategies to achieve deep processing. The first is question generation. A good student must develop questions about a specific topic and answer them after reading about it. The other is creating a concept map. The map would help in generating ideas a student learns. The student can also practice retrieving and applying the information learned. The video shows the suitable strategies that students can use in the learning process.
Video 5: Discussion Summary
Before doing an exam, one should not panic and go into denial. It means that students should have relaxed before an exam, and they should not believe that they are ready for the exam yet they are not. The students should always consult with their instructors if they have doubts about their preparedness for their exams.
