Organizational behavior is a broad area within management which focusses on how people act in organizations. This is the study and application of knowledge on how individuals and groups within an organization act it achieves this through taking a system approach whereby it interprets the people-organization relationships in terms of a whole individual, entire group, entire organization or entire social system.
Managers can use the theories and knowledge in organizational behavior to improve their management practices for working effectively with employees and influencing them to attain the goals set by the organization. The organizational behavior field has evolved from being a scientific study of management in the industrial era, to administrative theories of the role of managers, to bureaucracy principles and to the human relations studies of the needs of employees.
Organizational behavior is thus an interdisciplinary field which gets its ideas and research from disciplines that focus on human interaction and behavior. These fields are such as social psychology, psychology, industrial psychology, communication, sociology, and anthropology. The purpose of organizational behavior is building better relationships through achieving the human objectives, objectives of an organization and the social objectives. This paper will look at a problem within a work setting which can be addressed and possibly solved through organizational behavior research using scientific method.
It will also look at the benefits of organizational behavior on current day securit6y manager and the ways through which organizational behavior can help the security manager to address issues and conflicts that can arise within the organization or department. The organizations in which people work affect how they think, feel and act within the workplace as well as away from it.
In the same way the way people think, feel and act also affect the organization sin which they work organizational behavior is therefore an area that is concerned with both types of influences: work organizations on the people andthe people on the work organizations. One problem I have observed within a work environment is resistance to change. There was a time the organization had proposed to make changes within the organization. This change would see tow departments being merged together.
Many employees opposed the changes that had been proposed stating that some of them would end up jobless. In order to solve this problem there are several organizational behavior practices that could be applied. The first practice would be planning; there is no change that could possibly occur without planning (Brief & Weiss, 2002). The organization should carry out a research on the possible barriers to the change in order for them to do away with any obstacles that could come their way.
The organization could conduct workshops that could help the employees understand the changes and eliminate any misunderstanding and open up communication. The other organizational behavior practice that could be used to solve the problem is feedback. A positive feedback system in place could lead to greater motivation for the employees concerning the change. Employees who trained to concentrate on positive aspects of their own behavior within the organization will think and focus on the change and take it positively as opposed to looking at the negative side of the change.
Organizational behavior has various benefits for the current day security manager. One of these benefits is increasing productivity. The security manager's main objective should be increasing productivity continuously through changing the behavior of the employees through applying motivation theories as well as learning concepts. Through this the security manager can help the organization attain its goals. An organization is productive only if it is able to achieve its goals and hence productivity has to do with effectiveness and efficiency.
Therefore if the security manager applies some of the practices of organizational behavior then they will be able to increase the productivity of the organization (Lewis, 2012). Organizational behavior will also help the security manager reduce turnover. Reducing turnover is an important issue of the management since the organization does not want to loose their experienced and skilled workers. The security manager can therefore apply the organizational behavior practices such as proper feedback system, communication in order to address any issues that the employees could be facing.
This will assist in dealing with the issues and hence the employees would not have any reason to leave the organization. Organizational behavior can also be used by security manager to increase job satisfaction whereby he or she should be able to ensure that the employees are satisfied with their jobs. This means that they should be getting amount of rewards which they deserve depending on the work they do. This means.
