Someone once said to me that it is a rare privilege to know exactly what you want to do with your life. Over the course of the past few years, I have begun to understand the wisdom of that statement. I have a clear focus and goal: to establish myself in the field of global business as a marketing consultant. Pursuing a dual concentration at Babson College in Global Business Management and Marketing offers a unique opportunity for students entering the field of business who are focused and dedicated, and wish to begin their professional lives, grounded in both academic and real-world experience.

Babson College attracts me as an institution because it offers a total education in the field of modern commerce. It hones the individual's interpersonal skills through initiatives Babson's Coaching for Leadership and Teamwork Program (CLTP) which enables students to ready themselves for the competitive job market that lies ahead of them. CLTP also fosters discussion about the difficult ethical decisions students will have to make in a leadership capacity. Babson has shown unique foresight in creating such a program, given that the two concerns most often articulated in the business sections of newspapers relate to the fact that more people are vying for fewer positions in industry and the types of ethical questions raised by the types of poor investment choices made by once-august financial institutions. Babson clearly hopes to produce graduates who are competitive yet ethical in their approach to enterprise.

Babson College gives students a taste of what decision-making in the real world is like through its the Management Consulting Field Experience (MCFE), allowing even undergraduates to embark upon the type of consulting projects they will have to manage after they leave Babson. Such a program seems like an ideal match for my aspirations and interests and will nicely compliment my chosen majors' coursework in entrepreneurship around the world, international law, the history and cultures of different regions, and areas of marketing expertise like forecasting and negotiation techniques.

It is difficult to know what the global economic environment will resemble in the next year, perhaps even the next six months. Seismic changes will occur in the way the financial and baking sectors is regulated, the way the interconnected global economy will function, and how geopolitical events will affect and be affected by American economic policy. No one, even the nation's most renowned economists, have all the answer. However, I do know that Babson offers a unique community of scholars that will enable me, as part of that community, to ask the necessary probing questions about such issues to become a leader in the future.

Babson's commitment to producing critical thinkers who are business leaders will be vital to my success in the coming years of enterprise. All of the old common economic wisdom is being called into question. Real world experience is necessary, coupled with finely-honed analytical tools to understand data in an unbiased and clear-headed fashion. Babson offers a living business education, the kind that cannot be found in a textbook -- and the world is changing far faster than any textbook.
