Motivation, for Better or Worse

Motivation will impact a person's development trajectory. When a person is not motivated, they tend to flow with what is happening around them. However, a motivated individual will push harder and attempt to break away from the norm to attain their desire. Therefore, their trajectory of development will change based on what is motivating them at the moment. Students who are motivated to achieve good grades will change their development trajectory by focusing more on studies and less on parties or other activities separating them from their goal. The development will also motivate an individual's behavior by encouraging the person to change their behavior to mirror their development. As one grows or moves between careers and work, they will get levels of motivation, which will all work towards pushing them to achieve what they desire. It is possible to change the trajectory of development based on motivation. An individual could be motivated by good grades initially, which would motivate them to study hard for exams. However, the motivation might change to become better in sports since one would like to be a professional sports player. The initial development trajectory will change to focus more on sports and not on studies or exams.

Seeking Medical Information

I do seek medical information when I feel unwell or sick. The desire to get better and restore my body to its normal state is the motivator. When one is unwell, they will want to get as much information as possible to begin their journey to recovery. Without information or medical attention, one could end up treating or taking medications that harm instead of restoring the body to its normal state. Therefore, it is advisable to seek medical information first before attempting to self-medicate or taking any medications. While the motivator is to get well, one might harm their body more and aggravate the illness. Adhering to doctor's orders is easy immediately after visiting the doctor. As days progress, one finds it hard to adhere to the doctor's orders since they might have begun to recover, and they feel better than they did when they went to see the doctor. The motivation to follow the orders is not there anymore, and one feels they can ignore them as they have recovered or are on the road to recovery. There is a tendency to observe doctor's orders when one is unwell, and during this period, a person will take the medications diligently. However, when recovery begins and the body feels much better, we tend to ignore the orders and forget to take medications.

Values

Conformity is one of the behaviors where a person will feel they need to match their behavior to the group. Religions are social groups with group norms specifying the beliefs, behavior, attitudes, and importance of religion. When one joins a religion, they must adhere to the group norms, and going contrary to the group norms will make the individual an outsider. Values for a religious person will involve pursuing conservation values instead of being open to change. Therefore, religious people will not have the strength to question what they are told, and instead, they will adhere to the group norms and rules for them to remain in the group. Values are standards used to judge behavior. In the case of religion, values are used to determine if the individual is following the standards of the religion and conforming to the group norms. For a person to be accepted into the group, they need to demonstrate they follow the group's standards, and this will be done by them conforming to what other group members are doing.
