Ivan Petrovich Pavlov was a Nobel Prize-winning physiologist whose research into the conditioned reflex is considered a landmark discovery in both modern physiology and behavioral psychology. Pavlov was recognized by the Nobel Committee for his work with mammalian digestion; however, later experiments with canine salivation led to his theorization of the learned, or conditioned, reflex — a physiological response to associated but otherwise unrelated stimuli. Pavlov observed that when dogs were offered an additional stimulus alongside regular feedings, such as a flash of light, they could be made to salivate when only the added stimulus, and no food, was present. Kurt Lewin's Field Theory and Life Space
Kurt Lewin's field theory applied the concept of fields of force to explain behavior in terms of one's field of social influences. His areas of interest included human motivation, which involved describing human behavior in its total physical and social context. He paid close attention to social problems that affect how people live and work, and he sought to make workplaces more personal rather than purely industrial, in order to make work more personally satisfying to employees.

The life space is made up of all events in a person's past, present, and future that help shape and affect them.
