¶ … Stem Cells Hello, my friend. I am truly sorry and sympathize as much as I can regarding your traumatic car accident and subsequent spinal injury. I appreciate that you have kept me abreast of your treatment options. Your team of physicians agree that you would be a fine candidate for treatment specifically with stem cells. Most people have heard of stem cells and are aware of the scientific and ethical controversies surrounding them, but not as many people have performed productive research to find out what they really are and what the possible medical applications (and pitfalls) that come with stem cells. I have taken it upon myself to do some research for you, so that you are in a better position to make a more informed decision regarding this option for treatment of your spinal cord injury. In the next couple of pages, I will do my best to clearly and concisely present to you the basics or fundamentals of stem cells, the potential medical applications, and information regarding the risks that come with stem cell treatment. My intention is for you to feel as confident as possible in your health care...

Stem cells are a very exciting, promising, yet also risky type of cell, in that they are cells that essentially have the power or capacity to turn into any kind of cell that the body needs more of. (Mayo Clinic, 2013) The National Institute of Health's formal definition of stem cells are:
Stem cells are cells that have the potential to develop into some or many different cell types in the body, depending on whether they are multipotent or pluripotent. Serving as a sort of repair system, they can theoretically divide without limit to replenish other cells for as long as the person or animal is still alive. When a stem cell divides, each "daughter" cell has the potential to either remain a stem cell or become another type of cell with a more specialized function, such as a muscle cell, a red blood cell, or a brain cell. (2013)

Stem cells are exciting to researchers,…

Reflecting on the Engaging Learning PlanAs I reflect on and consider the process and outcomes of the Engaging Learning Plan rooted in the Common Core State Standard: BIOL.4A, I\\\'m reminded of the intricate relationship between the tiny building blocks of life and the giant, expansive universe of our daily, personal experiences. I think of this because this project for me went beyond academic exploration; it was an experience into the

A recognized universal educational tool such as Blackboard should have a sophisticated search characteristic in order to increase navigation and productivity about the location. The third barrier concerning the Blackboard is that it does not give an e-mail that is within courses. Contact among teachers and students are done across message boards (Kubala, 1998). In order for a student to obtain significant material they need to start by getting on

" Turkle claims that "our fragile planet needs our action in the real," which is exactly what the little girl was trying to point out. Her appreciating the animatronic animals more than the real ones is a product of technology saturation. Technology has become an annoyance: we all experience the "sense of encroachment of the device" on our personal time and it is difficult to cut ourselves off from the world.

Likewise, aspects of genetic engineering and stem cell technology offer long-term hope for victims of traumatic paralysis through the use of to repair spinal cord damage by providing artificially engineered nerve growth. Ethical Controversies: Precisely because genetic engineering allows scientists to manipulate the very essence of what makes us who we are, the field has generated significant opposition. Religious beliefs about the sanctity and "special" character of human life inspired intense political

College and High School Life High School and College education are the last two phases in an individual's life as one prepares to go and live in the 'real world.' These phases in an individual's educational development is necessary to make a person well-equipped with the necessary tools that all people need in going through life in the real world: knowledge and skills. Through knowledge and skills, an individual can

For the purposes of this review, Web-based instruction is considered to be any educational or training program distributed over the Internet or an intranet and conveyed through a browser, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. Java applet-based instruction is a special form of Web-based instruction. Although there is very little research on comparing the effectiveness of Java applet-based instruction to the traditional face-to-face offering. However Web-based instruction has received enough
