Genetics Original Gene Sequence: 3'-T AC CC T. TT AGTAGCCAC T-5

Transcription of Original: 3'-A UG GG A AA UCAUCGGUG A-5'

Translation of Original: Start codon Met, Gly, Asn, His, Arg, Stop

Mutated Gene Sequence 1: 3'-T ACGCT TT AGTAGCCAT T-5'

Transcription of Mutated 1: 3'-A UGCGA AA UCAUCGGUA A-5'

Translation of Mutated 1: Start codon Met, Arg, Asn, His, Arg, Stop

Mutated Gene Sequence 2: 3'-T AACCT TT ACTAGGCAC T-5'

Transcription of Mutated 2: 3'-AUUGGAAAUGAUCCGUGA

Translation of Mutated 2: Ile, Gly, Asn, Asp, Pro, Stop

The first and last codons of the sequences are the start and stop codons respectively. The start codon indicates where transcription should begin. The stop codon indicates where transcription should end.

When a mutation occurs in the start codon, transcription will not be initiated and thus a protein will not be produced. When a mutation in the stop codon occurs sometimes the mutation will still encode for a stop codon as was the case with mutated gene sequence 1 above. However, if the mutation does not code for a stop codon then transcription will continue causing the transcript to be incorrect for a...

Mutated gene sequence 1 does encode for a different protein than the original gene sequence. Amino acid glycine in the original sequence is replaced by arginine in the mutated gene sequence. Since mutated gene sequence 2 does not include a start codon transcription will not be initiated therefore no protein will be produced.
4. The amino acid sequence is important because it allows the protein to fold a particular way. A functional protein must have the proper structure. For example, a mutation that replaces a cysteine with another amino acid may knock out a critical cysteine bond in the folding of the protein so that it will not have a functional structure.

Genetics and Development Genetics is a scientific discipline that deals with how individuals inherit their physical and behavioral attributes. Generally, genetics is a branch of biology that deals with the science of heredity, genes, and differences in living organisms. It's the process with which a child inherits traits from his/her parents and the molecular organization and function of genes. The question of what determines the development of a child has been

Genetics and Development: As a discipline of biology, genetics is basically considered as the science of genes, inheritance, and differences in living organisms. Since genes are common characteristics in living organisms, genetics is used in the study of all living systems including plants, humans, domestic animals, bacteria, and viruses. Generally, this biological discipline focuses on the molecular structure and operation of genes whose behaviors are in the context of organisms or

Augustine derived from Plato, a perspective that the human self exists as a thinking immaterial soul. Plato stood firm in believing that after dying, the souls with the greatest love for the forms would rise and ponder over eternal truths. This to Plato was a kind of heaven, existing beyond time and space. Augustine interpreted such forms as concepts within the mind of a perfect and eternal God. Augustine said

Affluent Society," Marshall Sahlins shows that hunter-gatherer societies are by nature affluent because "all the people's material wants were easily satisfied." Their low standard of living, and correspondingly few material needs, implies that the basic necessities of hunter-gatherers are usually met. Sahlins contrasts the hunter-gatherer concept of affluence with the capitalist notion of wealth: "modern capitalist societies, however richly endowed, dedicate themselves to the proposition of scarcity." People in

The gene therapy-based experiments have shown that deafness can be cured with the help of gene therapy. One of the main reasons of the deafness is the destruction of hair cells in the cochlea. Through the great leaps man has developed in technology, it is now possible to 'create' organisms and plants through the combination of genes considered superior, resistant and quick-maturing. Farming and animal rearing land brings a challenge in the current world, due to
