¶ … global terrorism since September 2011 needs to be based on hard facts and, unfortunately, September11 was so recent and so raw that much of our perspective on global terrorism as a result is skewed by pain and suspicion. Firstly, the essay, therefore, has to be based on facts as opposed to feelings.

Secondly, one has to conceptualize 'terrorism' since it is a vague term and can refer to a myriad of instances (Green et al., 2001). Terrorism, for instance, exists on both an intra and inter-national scale. On an intra-national scale, you have countries, such as Britain where terrorism flourishes from within the country for both economic and political reasons or on an international scale where terrorism exists for reasons ranging from seeking to assert their militaristic prowess, to gaining independence, or for alleged religious explanations. Some instances of terrorism may even be seen in hind perspective to be legitimate as to exemplify situations of citizens struggling against occupiers.

The Rand Corporation for the National Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism (MIPT) (Conetta, 2006) demonstrated that the rate of terrorist incidents that occurred in the 59-month-period following September 2001 was 250% that of the 44.5% preceding the attack. The figure was adjusted to account for the different lengths of the two periods and it showed a monthly increase of 150%. The Corporation also showed that the rate of terrorist incidents for the entire post-9/11 saga until 2006 was 268% that of the incidence of terrorism before and including September 1st 2001.
The Rand Institute focused on Islamic-based terrorism with 75% of that post 2001 terrorism originating from Iraq. 300% increase in post-9/11 fatalities originated from Iraq; there was an 80% increase in terrorism excluding Iraq when compared with the pre-September 2001 saga.…
