My horizons significantly expanded while on this job and with the aid of gas chromatography and mass spectrometry experience, my areas of research and development base work increased exponentially. Finally, the jobs took me to the Northrop Grumman, where I came to perform next generation testing and method development. Given the continuous opportunities to learn more and with the current access to vast instrumentation, ranging from vapor delivery systems to DART-MS, I became further intrigued by the benefits of research. Consequently, I reached the conclusion that I am in the best position in my life to start the courses of a PhD program. The PhD program would allow me to dedicate more time and intense efforts to researching and even trying to find solution to the security issues facing our nation. civilians as well as the U.S. military. The superior chemical defense of our nation would be achieved through the development of high tech equipments at airports, cargo terminals and post offices.
Ultimately, I should prove that my participation in the university's PhD program would benefit the educational institution. At a generalist level and hoping for the best, I desire to make a significant contribution to the field of chemistry. In the long run, the university would benefit from having had me as a student and its reputation would increase. However, at a more realistic level, I do possess extensive knowledge in the filed of chemistry and I intent to share it with the faculty members in order to achieve higher levels of professionalism. Also, I possess various innovative ideas and analytical expertise.

My success in those challenging courses also contributed to my growing sense of confidence in my academic abilities to pursue this highly-competitive area of study in the future. As an Asian-American, I am most interested in liver research projects such as those of Dr. Tong and Dr. Corey, because so many Asian-Americans are afflicted with hepatic problems, including some of my very close family members. Likewise, I am interested in

All of the chapters in the book relate to various events in Levi's life, as well as to his passion for chemistry. Surprisingly (when considering the suffering he went through in Auschwitz) Levi only associates a small chapter in the book with his experiences in the death camp. The story is nonetheless sad, and can be regarded as being the most impressive account in the book. All in all, "The

272). There were great changes taking place during that period in history, and not all of those changes had to do specifically with science. Some of them stemmed from science in other ways, and were encouraged to develop because they had a better framework during that time. Philosophy during that time also had a "momentous transfer of allegiance from religion to science" (Tarnas, 1993; p. 272). That deeply affected how

Goals Statement couldn't believe my eyes. After all the wrapping paper lie strewn on the floor, I held in my hands the best present I had ever received. It wasn't a Game Boy or a new CD: it was a book called "Chemistry for Kids," and it came with a small lab set. I wasted no time, and immediately set out to perform my first experiments. I felt high as
