From the action of creating a good or service to delivering it to the customer be it partner, client, another business and in short, the society is called Marketing. In other words, marketing refers to the accumulation of consumer demand, allocating resources, and generating the greatest possible benefit by effective communication with customers. And thus it can be said that it is a vital part of running an organization.

Is marketing good or bad for our society?

Marketing, the most part of it, does not harm any customers, firms or society. The exchange of goods and services is valuable for both parties: the buyers and the sellers. These exchanges are based on mutual trust and agreement and are the reason that societies stick together and progress. However, good marketing is necessary to bring about progressive results; good marketing can create responsible consumer choice that can lead to economic growth through increased consumption. Informative advertisement of goods and services, involving consumers in the production and taking ideas from them, bringing innovations to the market and targeting the clientele are all characteristics of a good marketer. Walmart and Google, despite being infamous, have the mission statements claims to "lower the cost of living of everyone everywhere" and to "organize the world's information and make it accessible to everyone." (Quelch & Jocz, 2008)

The debate on whether marketing is good or bad may be irrelevant since in every economic system which is nearing commercialism, marketing takes place naturally, eventually. In free market economies e.g. USA, consumer demand makes up 70% of the country output whereas in Soviet Russia, where communalism prevails, a significant proportion…
