Attaining an MBA Will Allow

¶ … attaining an MBA will allow me to mold the multiple aspects of my personality and skills in a cohesive unit, which will hopefully permit me to capture my personal dreams. At my core, I am an exceptionally friendly and outgoing individual; I am at my best when I am working with others and I tend to naturally find myself in leadership positions. This is where I am comfortable in my personal life and my professional life as well.

My basic interest in engineering led me into the civil engineering field of work, and although I feel the same drive for success and the same thirst for understanding today that I did at the onset of my career, I know that there is more that I can achieve. Earning an MBA will make room for advancement within my current company, and hopefully provide me with the skills that will be necessary when I choose to strike-out on my own.

My entire life I have always found that I have been most successful in situations that force me to employ my interpersonal skills. I make friends easily and, no matter what specific test scores or various other objective performance ranks indicate, that remains one of the most elemental aspects of a successful business man or woman. Fortunately, I have also been successful in the academic arena as well.

Yet, after having worked in the civil engineering field for the past three years, I have recognized that finding ways to maximize the amount of involvement I have on the business end is perhaps the most promising road towards personal success and happiness. So, once again, I have found that academic advancement must go hand in hand with business advancement.

In order to gain the status and level of responsibility that I am most likely to thrive in, I must gain further education to provide myself with both the skills and qualifications to elevate my innate skills to even greater heights. In other words, I hope that the curriculum will help me to better develop myself as a business man, and to make me more marketable. Of course, I have repeatedly found myself in positions of leadership throughout my career and personal life.

I am comfortable in these positions, and those around me are often willing to place their trust in my decision making capabilities. Regardless of the mode by which power is bestowed, leadership, in all situations tends to follow distinctive patterns: it occurs as an event, it involves the relationship between the leaders and followers, it reaches beyond formal authority, it develops in times of need, it requires individual perception, and it requires application of that perception.

Leadership is a complex phenomenon and can be difficult to understand, especially from the standpoint of those involved. I have taken the lead in my brief career always in this informal manner, and with recurring success, I have found myself continually filling the needed role of the group leader. Not only has this occurred rather organically and without effort, but I have found it to be exceptionally rewarding -- to the extent that I believe I can formulate.
