Benchmarking is a useful concept for organizations as it defines and elaborates the best practices of an organization and makes them superior among its competitors in establishing a leading position (Coers, Gardner, Raybourn, & Higgins, 2002). It is important in measuring how a person or an organization is serving in order to achieve its targets and retain improvement, which develop as its competitive advantage. Benchmarking also helps in setting goals for others after comparing their processes and outcomes with the bench markers. Although in some cases, benchmarking does not work well. For benchmarking to work, the process must be similar when taken in comparison. Without having similar attributes, you cannot manage and compare the benefits the processes and the outcomes to set new goals. This is what limits the usage of benchmarking and this is where many organizations fail to find it suitable enough for their products or services.
